California Interiors: Interieurs Californiens

Diane Dorrans Saeks (Author), Angelika Taschen (Editor), "California Interiors: Interieurs Californiens"
Taschen | September 1999 | ISBN 3822866105 | PDF | 32 MB | 303 pages
There's something eternal about California home interiors, a bit of the wild, natural style leashed by responsible domesticity. Writer Saeks has captured the essence of both northern and southern portions of the state, wisely allowing pictures, not text, to take center stage. More than 40 homes are displayed visually, gracefully divided into two urban lifestyles (Los Angeles and San Francisco), by coastal and country circumstances, and by design classics. Featured are nests of both the famous and the nearly so; Diane Keaton's Lloyd Wright home (Frank's son) is contrasted with two comfortable Sausalito houseboats. Ideas galore, along with the references--design catalogs, flea markets, and a bibliography--make imagination live

Assessing Building Performance

Assessing Building Performance
Elsevier | ISBN 0750661747 | December 13, 2004 | 224 pages | PDF File | 4 Mb RAR Download

The building performance evaluation (BPE) framework emphasizes an evaluative stance throughout the six phases of the building delivery and life cycle: (1) strategic planning/needs analysis; (2) program review; (3) design review; (4) post-construction evaluation/review; (5) post-occupancy evaluation; and, (6) facilities management review/adaptive reuse.

The lessons learned from positive and negative building performance are fed into future building delivery cycles. The case studies illustrate how this basic methodology has been adapted to a range of cultural contexts, and indicates the positive results of building performance assessment in a wide range of situations

From the Back Cover
Bring new realism to your visualizations with a command of the mental ray toolset in 3ds Max. mental ray is made simple with an accessible description of its tools and workflows. You can learn the nuts and bolts of applying materials, lighting, and optimizing your renders.

Step-by-step tutorials lavishly illustrate the processes and techniques required to produce renderings of existing models. Interior and exterior projects demonstrate how to:
*Prepare materials for interior and exterior scenes in light-free enviornments for efficient rendering
* Light a daytime interior scene including indirect illumination, color bleeding, and mr lights
* Light a nighttime interior scene including light decay, lume shaders, exposure controls, and rendering light tests
* Light an exterior scene in daylight with mr Sun and mr Sky objects
* Create a hazy exterior setting with mr Physical Sky and an applied bitmap
* Efficiently work a complex scene to reserve time consuming complete renders for the end

Valuable appendices provide direction on trasnferring CAD files from AutoCAD and Revit to 3ds Max, creating caustics and flash effects, HDRI, Render passes and Bucket rendering, common errors and the process of creating the high resolution image as seen on the front cover

Building Systems for Interior Designers

by Corky Binggeti "Building Systems for Interior Designers"
Wiley | ISBN: 0471417335 | 2002. | 469 p. | RARed PDF 6.69MB

Building Systems for Interior Designers is the first book to explain technical building systems and engineering issues in a clear and accessible way to interior designers. Written in a straightforward, nontechnical style that maintains depth and accuracy, this book is the first complete text applicable to interior design courses and provides thorough preparation for the NCIDQ exam. Engaging, clear illustrations support the text, which is accessible to those without a math or physics background.

Topics covered include:
Heating and air conditioning systems
Environmental issues
Water and waste
Thermal comfort
HVAC systems
Electricity

How Buildings Work: The Natural Order of Architecture

Oxford University Press | ISBN 019516198x | July 13, 2005 | 288 pages | PDF File | 14.5mb RAR

With its homespun drawings and offerings of architectural wisdom for lay readers, this book is like a Whole Earth Catalog building course. In this update of his 1980 edition, however, Allen (architecture, Yale) manages to explain with brevity and common sense "how buildings work." In the opening pages, he places the Earth in the solar system and defines our place on the planet. He then offers analyses of the effects of sun, wind, and cold on building design and location. By focusing primarily on housing, Allen lets readers clearly understand everything from lighting, comfort, and quiet to the basics of making a sturdy structure. He offers occasional but well-placed examples of non-Western design as well. And the illustrations, which look like 1970s instructions for macrame, somehow work.
